Bobby Gordon Quartet

Legendary jazz clarinetist Bobby Gordon returns to the AFCDJS
monthly concert dance series on Feb. 21. Gordon studied with
Joe Marsala and has worked with Wild Bill Davison, Muggsy
Spanier, Bobby Hackett, George Brunies, the Jim Cullum Jazz
Band and Leon Redbone. His musicians are: Tommy Gannon, piano;
John Hurst (High Society Jazz Band), bass; Mike Massesa (Welk
Resort Staff Musician), drums; and Ramona DeRyan, vocals.

Titanic Jazz Band

|
San Francisco Jazz—the music of Lu Watters,
Turk Murphy and Clancy Hayes—is the specialty of the Titanic
Jazz Band. Cornetist/leader Dan Comins, reedman Mike Baird and
pianist Robbie Rhodes worked with the celebrated South Frisco
Jazz Band, which was led by Titanic’s banjoist Vince Saunders.
Trombonist Keith Elliott has played with the Jazzin’ Babies
and Rosy McHargue and brass bassist Ray Cadd worked with the
Frisco Syncopators and Yerba Buena Stompers.

| Carl Sonny
Leyland, internationally renowned boogie woogie pianist and
blues vocalist, has performed around the globe and on film
soundtracks (including “A Perfect World” and “The Pelican
Brief”). On Apr. 18, his trio will include Wally Hersom (Big
Sandy, Deke Dickerson, Campus Five) on bass and AFCDJS
President Hal Smith on drums, with the phenomenal Chloe
Feoranzo as a guest on reeds. Expect to hear boogie woogie by
Ammons, Yancey, Davenport, Lofton plus swing and vintage pop
songs. |

| This popular
local band is a product of AFCDJS’ monthly Dixieland workshop
and the annual Adult Jazz Camp. Co-led by reedman John
Contreras and drummer Dave Austin, the band includes: Ray
Couteau, cornet; (AFCDJS Executive Director) Alan Adams,
trombone; Ken Dillard, piano; Jim Goodwin, guitar and banjo;
and Tim Smith, bass. The band performs every Wednesday at
Fuddruckers at Grossmont Center in La Mesa and just completed
a 12-week engagement at the Lawrence Welk Resort in Escondido. |
