Red Pepper Jazz Band

This New Orleans style jazz band may be heard frequently at jazz clubs, restaurants and festivals throughout Southern California. Currently they play Sundays at Adele's in the San Clemente Inn. Led by banjoist Ralph Diana, the band consists of: Phil Kirk, trumpet; Eric Rosenau, trombone; Mike Olson, clarinet; Bob Pinsker, piano; Stan Kling, tuba; and Kenny Powell, drums. The band will dedicate the July 20 concert to the memory of the late Charlie Romero who played clarinet with RPJB for many years.

 

Coyote Hills Jazz Band

The Coyote Hills Jazz Band has played for every conceivable type of audience from jazz concerts at the Los Angeles Zoo to patrons of an Italian restaurant. The band plays a variety of material from Dixieland to Swing and featured vocalist is Evie Fiorani. Trumpeter Gene Marklevits leads the Coyote Hills Jazz Band, which also includes George Gibbs, trombone; Brooks Coleman, reeds; Jack Sodikoff, piano; Art Levin, tuba; and Don Hooker, drums.
 

Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra

Authentic Ragtime and pre-1920s jazz is the specialty of the San Diego-based Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra. The ensemble is a favorite of vintage dance aficionados, who frequently dress in period clothing as they dance the Texas Tommy to HRO's music. The leader is trumpeter Bruce Vermazen. The other orchestra members are: Jason Ford, trumpet; AFCDJS Executive Director Alan Adams, trombone; Cheryl and Daniel Swem, violins; Fernando Herrera, flute and piccolo; Eddie Blough, clarinet; Patrick McMahon, tenor sax; Bob Pinkser, piano and vocals; John Winkelman, tuba; and Robert Wishner, drums.
 

Titanic Jazz Band

The Titanic Jazz Band plays San Francisco Jazz; the music made famous by Lu Watters' Yerba Buena Jazz Band, Turk Murphy's Jazz Band, banjoist/vocalist Clancy Hayes and the South Frisco Jazz Band. South Frisco bandleader Vince Saunders is Titanic's banjoist. Titanic's leader is cornetist Dan Comins. His bandmates are: Keith Elliott, trombone; Mike Baird, reeds; Robbie Rhodes, piano; Ray Cadd, tuba; and AFCDJS President Hal Smith substituting for Chris Tyle on drums. is the leader.

Trad Jazz Instructors

At the conclusion of our Adult Traditional Jazz Camp, the Instructors will play a concert of hot vintage jazz. The repertoire runs the gamut from early New Orleans to the Revival of the 1950s. The musicians have played with the best-known contemporary traditional jazz bands in the U.S.: Clint Baker, cornet; Alan Adams (Director), trombone; "Gentleman Jim" Buchmann, reeds; John Royen, piano; Katie Cavera, guitar and banjo; Marty Eggers, bass and tuba; and Hal Smith (Assistant Director), drums.
